Nyepi and closed nights: how to set up your hotel calendar in Bali

On the Day of Silence the island stops. Your calendar and your channels need to know before guests try to book.

What changes during Nyepi

Nyepi is the Balinese Day of Silence. Travel is heavily restricted across the island: arrivals and departures on that day are not practical, and many hotels ask guests, especially families with children, to plan around it. The exact date moves each year, so check the official calendar.

What to set in your calendar

  • No arrivals on the day. Close the date for arrivals on all channels.
  • No departures on the day. Close it for departures too.
  • Children. If your policy is adults only that night, your booking page should refuse stays with children that cover the night.
  • Tell your guests. Add a short note to your confirmation message.

How Sojodesk handles it

In the Revenue plan you mark the night as a closed night. Sojodesk then refuses arrivals and departures on that day on your booking page, refuses children for stays covering that night, and sends closed-to-arrival and closed-to-departure to your channels. Stays that surround the date remain bookable.

Common questions

Is the date added automatically?

No. The date differs each year and depends on your own policy, so you add it yourself once a year.
